TOP ROPE & LEAD COMPETITION RULES
General Rules
-
Each athlete is assigned 10 climbs based on their category.
-
Climbs are attempted on top rope or lead, depending on category and climb number.
-
Flash format only: athletes may only attempt each climb once.
-
Belayers must give adequate slack.
-
If the rope assists a climber's attempt in any way, their attempt will finish.
-
Belayers will not be provided by Oasis, you must coordinate your own belayer on the day.
-
Belayers must be certified by Oasis BEFORE competition day.
-
Competitors can also belay for each other on the day.
-
ALWAYS DO A BUDDY CHECK BEFORE CLIMBING!
Lead Specific Rules
-
Climbers and Belayers can use the knots and belay devices that they are familiar with.
-
Belayers are expected to spot their climbers before the rope is clipped into the first clip.
-
Belayers are expected to stand in a sensible position relative to their climber and the climbers around them.
-
Judges may ask belayers to make adjustments if anything is deemed unsafe.
-
If a back-clip or z-clip happens during an attempt, both the belayer and the climber can communicate to solve the issue.
-
If a back-clip or z-clip is ignored, and the climber goes beyond the reach of the issue, judges will stop the climber, and their attempt will finish.
-
Pre-clipping first clip is NOT allowed.
Scoring
We will set 25 climbs for the event:
-
Kids will climb Top Rope on climb numbers 1 – 10
-
Novice will climb Top Rope on climb numbers 6 – 15
-
Intermediate will climb Lead on climb numbers 11 – 20
-
Open will climb lead on climb numbers 16 – 25
-
Your final result will be your total score from each of your 10 climbs
Each Climb will have 2 zone holds and a top.
-
The zone holds are worth 1 point each and the top is worth 2 points, to a total of 4 points.
-
To get the point for a zone, the climber must make meaningful control of the zone hold.
-
In Top Rope, the climber must make a controlled match on the final hold to get full points.
-
In Lead, the climber must clip the final clip to get full points.
-
The raw sore of the climb will be multiplied by the climb number to give the points for that climb.
-
For example, getting both zones and the top on climb number 10 gives (1+1+2)x10 = 40 points
Tie-Breakers
If athletes finish with the same total score, the following tie-breakers apply, in order:
-
Highest Climb Number Top achieved
-
Number of Tops
-
Number of Zone 2s
-
Number of Zone 1s
