Open to all ages and all levels - each competitor will assign themselves a category at the beginning of Round 1.

Competition Categories​

1. Beginner (Top Rope Only) - If you are a newcomer to top rope climbing and want to give yourself a challenge in a fun, social environment. You can regularly climb grade 15-16.

2. Intermediate (Lead) - Flash grade of 18. Haven't sent higher than 22?

3. Advanced (Lead) - Flash grade of 21. Haven't sent higher than 24?

4. Pro (Lead) - Flash grade 24. Good Luck.

Climbs are attempted on top rope or lead, depending on the climbers category that they have chosen.

Belaying

• Oasis will not be able to provide belayers for Sunset Sends. Organise to come down with a group of friends, have fun, and soak up the atmosphere.

• All participants, whether Top Rope, Lead Climbing, or just Lead Belaying, must have valid credentials prior to participating in the event. (Current Waiver form, Current Lead Waiver if applicable, valid Oasis Lead Climb / Belay Pass)

• Belayers can use Belay devices that they are familiar with, eg. ATC, GriGri, or assisted belay devices.Ohms or other weight differential devices are allowed to be used.

Lead Specific Rules

• ​Climbers must tie in with a figure 8 (no bowlines).

• Belayers are expected to spot their climbers before the rope is clipped into the first clip.

• Belayers are expected to stand in a sensible position relative to their climber and the climbers around them. 

• If a back-clip or z-clip happens during an attempt, both the belayer and the climber can communicate to solve the issue. If the belayer takes in any manner while the back-clip or z-clip is being resolved, this will count as +1 attempt and would not count as a flash for the climber.

• Pre-clipping first clip is accepted.

Scoring

We will set 4 routes for the event per week. A total of 16 climbs will be set over the 4-week period.

• Beginner routes will be Top Rope only.

• Intermediate routes Will be Lead only.

• Advanced routes will be Lead only.

• Pro routes will be Lead only.

 

You will be responsible for your own score card, and it will be an honour system as there will be no judges, so please be accurate, and honest with your scoring.

Each Climb will have 2 zone holds and a top.

• Zone 1 is worth +1 point, zone 2 is worth +2 points, and a top is worth +3 points.

• To get the point for a zone, the climber must make meaningful control of the zone hold.

• In Top Rope, the climber must make a controlled match (2 hands - 3 seconds of control) on the final hold to be awarded points.

• In Lead, the climber must clip the final clip, from the final hold, to get full points.

• Flash Tops will be awarded + 1 point.

• Day 1 Tops will be awarded +1 point.

• If a climber on their Flash attempt reaches zone 1, then zone 2, and subsequently tops the route, all on Day 1 of Sunset sends, the maximum points they would receive is 8.
